Jesko von den Steinen portrays the heroic leading role ‘The Stranger’ in the world’s largest water-based show. ‘The House of Dancing Water’, the centerpiece of City of Dreams envisioned by Mr. Lawrence Ho, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, is a production by Franco Dragone Entertainment Group at City of Dreams, personally created and directed by Mr. Franco Dragone. This USD250 million breathtaking water-based show which draws creative inspiration from Chinese culture is destined to be the most extravagant live production ever seen in Asia.
The show, set at City of Dreams’ awe-inspiring ‘Dancing Water Theater’, begins in the coast of Coloane, a Fisherman travelling with his boat enjoys his journey. Suddenly, a mysterious energy from the water creates a terrible whirlpool, grabs the fisherman and pulls him to a place and a time of legends…He cannot realize what is happening at this very moment within a lengthy time. He observes, lost and intrigued… when a storm brings a survivor from a shipwreck, a Stranger to this magical kingdom. The young brave Stranger encounters and falls in love with a beautiful Princess who was thrown into a cage by her evil stepmother, the Dark Queen. Without hesitating, the Fisherman decides to help the Stranger to fight against to the Dark Queen and rescue the Princess. With his help, the Stranger & the Princess defeat the Dark Queen and the Fisherman obtains an unexpected reward.
Jesko von den Steinen is an Actor, Clown, Choreographer, Filmmaker and Creative designer who is based primarily in Berlin, Germany and Montréal, Canada. Born to German parents yet raised in a provincial part of Canada, his roots had never set, and the draw of the versatile and nomadic artistic life embarked him on a path of non-verbal theatre and the circus arts.
Jesko was the solo Clown and principle character with Cirque du Soleil’s “Saltimbanco” for over five years. He has worked with other companies in various disciplines, ie circus arts, dance, and mask based theatre, performing around the world in theatre festivals including the Macau arts festival. Since 2006, he along with his Clown partner, Guennadi Tchijov (The Treacherous Minister in “The House of Dancing Water”) have formed their own company and comedic duo. Receiving various accolades for their work, they have performed internationally in different theatres and varietés. It is with a great pleasure that they return to Franco Dragone, embarking together on the journey of “The House of Dancing Water”.
Jesko’s studies previously have taken him from “Dell’Arte International school of Physical theatre” (a Lecoq based pedagogy) and consequently apprentice to master teacher and founder, Carlo Mazzone-Clementi. He left to the “L’École de Mime Corporel”, followed by three years at “L’École Nationale de Cirque du Montréal”. He studied classical ballet and contemporary dance at “L’École Superieure de Danse du Québec”. After a period of time he furthered his studies as an actor with the “Michael Chekhov Studio London” and with Philippe Gaulier, at the “Ecole Philippe Gaulier”. His explorations have since taken him to Improvisational dance composition and visual design.
As a teacher, Jesko has taught at the National Theatre School of Spain in Seville; with the Rudra Béjart Ballet; the National Circus school of Brazil; and for the International Olympic Committee, in Lausanne Switzerland. He worked with Cirque du Soleil as a consultant and casting evaluator. He also teaches in Paris, France with Philippe Gaulier, as his assistant, and professor of movement. As a Filmmaker, Jesko has created several short films in conjunction with Bravo TV! “Corps”, one of which, used acrobatics and contemporary dance as its form of narration. Co-written and directed with Tony Babinski, the film has received awards from the World Film Fest in Houston, Texas, and been selected for screening at various international film festivals. As a Designer, Jesko works on occasion with Montréal design Luminaries SIDLEE as a Creative strategist. SIDLEE’s clients have included: Adidas Originals, Cirque du Soleil, FC Juventus, Diesel jeans, and the Casino de Montreal. As a Director, Jesko has assisted Franco Dragone Entertainment Group in different gala events in Europe, as well as directed events in Germany including G.O.P varietés and Telekom.
